Happy Monday my friends,
I hope you had an awesome weekend and had a change to spend some time outside. The weather in Fort Lauderdale has been just beautiful!
Today, let's talk about how to workout smarter... How to make each workout more efficient while achieving optimal results. One thing I know a lot is about exercise. I have been doing it all my life.
All workouts were not created equally. Sadly, many people simply waste time in the gym.
Here are 5 of my favorite tips to ensure that every minute of your workout is well spent. That every workout is burning fat and strengthening your muscles.
Workout Smart Tip 1: Use More Resistance
In order to get the most from each workout it is important to challenge our muscles, and not to simply go through the motions. If you are able to complete 15 repetitions easily, then the weight is too light. On the other side, if you cannot perform 6-8 repetitions through its full range of motion, and find yourself cheating on form, then the weight is too heavy.
The correct weights will feel challenging by your last few (2-3) repetitions but will not force us to sacrifice form. Always form first, resistance later.
Workout Smart Tip 2: Keep it Fresh
When it comes to exercise, the term: "If it isn’t broken then don’t fix it" does not apply. If you are doing the same exercise routine for as long as you can remember, then it is time to change things up.
The truth is that exercise routines have expiration dates, and that is the date that they begin to lose their effectiveness. As a rule of thumb never use the same routine for more than 4 weeks.
Workout Smart Tip 3: Never Skip the Warm Up
Some people still consider warm up to be a waste of time and would rather jump right into the heart of the routine. What they do not realize is that a good warm up will allow us to perform at a higher intensity, which means greater results.
The point of a warm up is to increase your muscle temperature. This increases blood flow, muscle contraction and reduces muscle resistance. It also lubricates our joints for optimal range of motion. Your warm up should last 5-10 minutes.
Workout Smart Tip 4: Focus on Proper Form
Bad form is OUT. When it comes to resistance and strength training, learning proper form and technique is crucial. Focus on the movement of each exercise instead of how much weight you are trying to lift. Learn the exercise with a lighter weight to achieve proper form and then start increasing the weight. Lifting with improper form almost always results in injury.
Take the time to achieve proper form, by doing so you will avoid injury and will reap the full benefit from each exercise.
Workout Smart Tip 5: Together is better
People who exercise alone are less challenged, less accountable and typically see less results. It makes sense, doesn’t it? Why rush to the gym if no one is there waiting for you? Why push yourself if no one is watching? Exercising alone can be a recipe for disaster.
The best way to avoid injury, feel, move, look your best, and to see results you are looking for is to come workout with us.
We are passionate about seeing our clients achieve results by working out smart and without wasting time, energy and effort on mistakes.
